Take Action to Find Clarity — Not the Other Way Around

I’ve learned over time that finding clarity in life requires inspired action. But for over-thinkers like me, it’s really easy to spin on what specific actions to take or question what’s revealed as the next right step.

I can literally remember moments where I thought “Well, that’s irrelevant and not going to help me,” when what presented itself was exactly the thing I needed to do next.

Or other times where I’d sit there with several possible next steps available and feel paralyzed to go do it already for fear of choosing the wrong one.

The bottom line is this: Be open to what presents itself to you and know that there is no wrong next step except to do nothing. An action that doesn’t immediately pan out into your dream business, dream life or dream relationship isn’t a wrong step at all.

Let me give you some examples:

  • You start painting watercolors as a creative outlet and quickly realize you love beautiful watercolor prints but actually hate painting them. Clarity.

  • You launch an online gift service with personalized card prints to finally use that art degree — soon you discover you’d just as well outsource the art because what really sets your soul on fire is helping people find a way to show their love and support virtually through a global pandemic. Clarity.

  • You start a side hustle focused entirely on sales copywriting in search of a deeper purpose outside the corporate grind — although you’re really great at it, you have to admit you feel pulled to do more and want to make a greater impact. Clarity.

Taking action helps that blurry picture come into focus bit by bit. Just because it doesn’t give you an immediate through-line to the outcome you want, it is a critical part of the process that you simply need to accept, embrace and enjoy.

That last example, by the way, is mine. And here I am writing in a way that fills my heart, hoping to have greater impact and inspire other women to go after their dreams.

I don’t have all the answers but have collected many in the last 6 months. Where I am today is a result of simply starting and having faith.

Have you started? If you quiet your mind and just allow yourself to be, what shows itself as a next possible step forward?
